I have been a member of the Plattsburgh (New York) Noon Rotary Club since 1988. Recently, since I now spend most of the year in Florida, I joined the Rotary Club of Fort Myers (Florida) South. In Plattsburgh, I chaired the GSE Committee and also served on the District 7040 GSE Committee. I am a Paul Harris Fellow, as is my wife, Stasia, and I was also named Rotarian of the year by the Plattsburgh Club. I have been proud of my affiliation with Rotary and all that it stands for.
For 37 years, I was a professor at the State University of New York College in Plattsburgh, one of 12 senior colleges in the university system, which numbers 64 colleges. It is the largest public university in the world, with over 450,000 full and part-time students. For the last 20 years of teaching, I taught television production with state-of-the-art facilities. I am now retired, enjoy a good game of golf, read and do not account for my time to anyone other than my wife. I maintain my interest in both video and still photography and reading about the latest trends in technology. I was always a gadget freak and I continue with that vice, much to the dismay of my wife who signs all the checks for purchasing my latest whims. In my working days, it was the State of New York that paid for my latest toys.
My wife was a Distinguished Professor of Nursing at our local Community College. She put aside her career until our girls were in school for full days, but managed a career of 20 years.
In December, my wife and I will celebrate 45 years of wedded bliss. Through the years, she has been my best friend and inspiration. We have been blessed with three lovely daughters who have all been successful in their respective careers and we have six wonderful grandchildren and one great grandson. Though our girls are scattered around the country, we hear from each of them on a regular basis.
If I were to live my life over, there would be very little that I would want to change. I am pleased to be able to reflect and come to that conclusion.
Regards in Rotary,
Larry Arcarese
