RIBI Roadshow at Freeport
District 1190, Lancashire and Cumbria, UK

During the RIBI annual conference in Blackpool , Lancashire, England the Roadshow caravan was located at the Freeport Shopping Centre at nearby Fleetwood.

The display vehicle (as photo) is a magnificent showcase for Rotary International and it is available for clubs to use on loan from RIBI headquarters in Alcester, England.

During the weekend over 20,000 members of the public walked past the display and members of 6 local clubs were on hand in 4-hour shifts to talk to the public about Rotary – on this occasion without even asking for money!!

It was interesting to hear how little the public at large knew about us but with the help of handouts and the time to talk to individuals we did manage to describe some of the projects Rotary is carrying out locally and throughout the world.

A number of leaflets were available and gifts of inscribed pens and key-rings were handed out both containing the details of the web site of RIBI for those interested enough to pursue their enquiries further.

Forms were also on hand for members of the public to complete if they felt they could offer some help or assistance or if they were interested in the possibility of joining us. These enquiries have been followed-up by clubs local to the individual’s addresses.

It was widely agreed that the effort had been rewarding but it was disappointing to note how little people knew about what Rotary did – they knew of our organisation but were oblivious to how much we actually achieve – after the weekend there are quite a few who have been duly educated..!!
