10/11/2007 & 11/11/2007– A total of 16 Rtns, 8 Anns , 8 Rtns children, 8 Rtrs, 11
medical personnel from Keningau Hospital, 9 Volunteers from the private sector, 3 Opticians
from Sabah Optical Association , 4 members from Diabetes Association, 20 medical personnel
from Queen Elizabeth General Hospital and 8 Pharmacists from Sabah Pharmaceutical Society worked for these two full days. A total of 93 volunteers in which 9 are Eye Specialists, 6 Optometrists
and 1 doctor worked hard to screen 1136 villagers and children . Out of these screenings,
175 needed further referral for eye problems and surgeries for Cataract and Pterygium.
Sabah Optical Association screened 515 villagers for refractions in which 145
needed Distance correction and 322 needed Near correction. The free spectacles by the SOA will be
processed and delivered to all concerned soonest. The Malaysian Diabetes Association
Sabah Branch did 550 blood glucose tests for villagers above 40 years old and also
for some suspected cases. Patients with high blood glucose level will be immediately
sent to Keningau Hospital for further treatments.
The first day started off with a morning call to all volunteers at 05.45 a.m. Buffet
breakfast were served from 06.00 a.m. Everyone left the hotel by 06.30 a.m in a convoy
of 24 vehicles consisting mostly 4 wheel drive and an ambulance. The journey took 1
hr drive. Arriving 07.30 a.m , a huge crowd already wait for us. In no time, registration
started with 10 volunteers , medical personnels set up the eye screening stations and
other stations in their quick pace as the crowd were very excited to get their eye
screened. The event took a rest for the official opening ceremony at 11.00 a.m by our
Guest of Honour, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph Kurup, Chairman of Sabah Land
Development Berhad, our major sponsor. The ceremony was short and simple. The
screenings resume 11.30 a.m. Buffet lunch was served from 12.00 to 02.00 p.m . all
volunteers took turns to eat as the crowd were full at every stations. The first day
screenings ended at 05.30 p.m with a total of 648 screenings done. All departed back
to Keningau for dinner and rest.
The second day started off same as the first day except no more opening ceremony.
A total of 488 screenings done until 02.30 p.m. giving us a total of 1136 screenings for
these two days event. All packed and left for Kota Kinabalu by 03.30 p.m and arrived
safely around 07.00 p.m.
14/11/2007 – Wednesday – Visited Kg Pahu alone as all Rtns are tired after the
Nabawan Trip. This trip is to bring all the pipes fittings for the villagers to start work
on the Gravity Feed water supply system. At the site, briefed the villagers on the
piping layout and also the methodology on how to install the piping and the fittings.
Villagers also promised to work two days per week in the Gotong Royong way and to
expendite the completion before Dec 2007.
Chong in the morning as the Eye medical teams from Queen Elizabeth Hospital , Kota
Kinabalu and Keningau Hospital will be operating a handful of patients referred from
the Nabawan Avoidable Blindness Outreach.
17/11/2007 – Saturday – Our partner in service Malaysian Diabetes Association
Sabah Branch will organizing their World Diabetes Day at Wisma SESB from 07.30
a.m to 12.30 p.m. Blood glucose test, blood pressure test, urine test and BMI will be
available for free to all public. Our members are all be invited to be their guests .

Last Thursday,we visited the Keningau Hospital. Two teams of medical doctors from
QEH and Hospital Keningau conducted eye operations on 15 patients. One or two of
them will have to have follow-up operations.
Met the PKR of Sook concerning getting the villagers to Hospital for operations.
The follow-up operations may take as much as one year.
On Wednesday, 19 December, 19/12. Our partner in service, Sabah Optical Association presented 467 free spectacles for the needy villagers of the recent concluded Nabawan Avoidable Blindness Outreach.
Our club also assisted in chipping in RM1600.00 for the cos of some high index lenses.
