Hear Better - Live Better
ROTI Report
[Do not miss the photographic documetation at the end of this report]

The Rotary club of Rajkot Midtown, RI dist 3060, with Rotary club of Winona, RI dist 5960 decided to help the deaf community with the help of Matching Grant no. 20637.

In the diagnostic camp organised on 13th February 2005, there was an overwhelming response. Eight hundred and fifty patients were examined by 4 Ear surgeons. Forty Midtowners helped in organizing this mega camp.

Six hundred patients underwent audiometry testing to quantify their hearing levels. Four hundred hearing aids were distributed free to the poor and needy.

After receiving her hearing aid, one elderly lady was asked: "now can you hear?", she said, with tears in her eyes: "now I can hear the voice of my little grandson who calls me 'BA' - Granny."

Sixty patients were selected for microsurgery. Two surgeons from Mumbai and three local Rotarian surgeons operated upon these patients.

This 'state of the art' surgery was shown on 20th February 2005 to 40 ENT surgeons of the region who benefited from the cutting edge technology transfer.

The Rotary foundation inspired us and considering the immense need, Rotary club of Rajkot Midtown has now started a permanent ear disease centre. This centre offers free ear operations and hearing aids to the poor on a permanent basis. Three Rotarian Ear surgeons render their free services.
