Hippotherapy In Russia The Rotary Club "Moscow Renaissance" (District 2350 - Sweden and Russia West) has its origin in our sincere devotion to humanistic ideals of Renaissance, i.e. to that spiritual unity, which exist since the very Middle Age between the Moscovia and Europe. Our Club carries on a charitable activity, aimed to providing support for developing hippotherapy ("Equine Assisted Therapy Program") in Russia. It is a therapy treatment strategy utilized worldwide as a treatment program to achieve functional outcomes for the cure of disabled youngsters (including children affected by Down disease, autism and many other psychosomatic diseases). It is provided by the Moscow Charity Horseriding Club for Disabled Persons (http://www.hippotherapy.ru/) presided by Mr. Peter Gurvich, who is a Charter member of our Rotary Club. Disabled youngsters are cured by means of their communication with horses, with which they establish tight and friendly contact. During these days two disabled youngsters with two horses are taking part with success in the ongoing Para-Olympic Games in Athens. The Moscow Charity Horseriding Club for Disabled Persons has only 7 horses, and each of them is really unique. Their names are Rybak, Sultan, Trenchik, Extragone, Gabat, Dochka and Bulochka. These horses are already trained in the work with disabled children. They became really friends to these unlucky youngsters and everyday they carry on an incommensurably useful therapeutic work.
Maintenance of one horse does not cost more than one thousand USD per quarter. The Moscow Charity Horseriding Club for Disabled Persons needs 30 thousand USD per year in order to duly maintain these 7 horses. We appeal to Rotarians, and through them to entrepreneurs, businessmen asking for their support in patronizing horses. In order to give a clear example of the Rotarian friendly support over the boundaries we ask your Club to appeal other Clubs of your District to adopt a horse, and become its personal sponsor, during this Centennial year By this you will achieve a double task of supporting the chosen horse and help hundreds of young disabled, for whom hippotherapy is not a mere technical term but the only remaining chance of getting out from an unlucky life. Your example will help us to show to the local community how effective can be the mutual Rotarian help over all the existing boundaries. This will be the best advertisement of our Rotarian ideals "Service above self".
